Watching - Beginnings

We watched Watching - Beginnings in class and these are the notes I made:
  • Danny Boyle said that with British films you need to announce your ambition in the first five minutes.
  • Someone else also stated that you need to give the audience a good sharp shock.
  • Another person also said that it's the interaction betwen the film and the public that decides whether the film will work or not.

Preliminary Exercise final cut - Video

Preliminary Exercise Take Two - Final Cut

When we finished our editing we realised that our eyeline match wasn't correct so Mrs Allison said we had to do it again. This time however I was working with Daisy, Jared and Harry, we all decide to do Jared and Daisy's script, which was a drug dealer setting.
This time we allocated roles which were as follows
Daisy: Buyer
Harry: Drug dealer
Jared: Cameraman
Me: Director/Editor
This worked better as we all worked well together and worked out how to place the camera and we also bounced ideas of each other. When filming we made sure to keep to the 180 degree rule and the eye line match rule. I edited the shots and made sure that they all flowed and had continuity, the match on action was done well and so was the shot reverse shot. Overall I believe that we worked hard and the Preliminay exercise was done well.

Preliminary Task - The Filming

Today I did the preliminary task, I worked with Harry and Samaya. We took the shots but didn't get a chance to edit, the scenario we chose was a man asking for a job from a gangsta-like person. Harry took the role of the man asking for a job and I took the role of the gangsta-like person, Samaya was the camerawoman. Filming took awhile as I couldn't stop laughing and we had to redo shots because of this, we also took extra shots just incase the others weren't good enough.
